Who is The Guidance Triad for?
The Guidance Triad was designed primarily with early educators in mind, but the content is applicable for parents, foster parents, educators of all ages and grade levels, mental health professionals, and anyone interested in learning how to enhance their existing child guidance practices.
How can I access the Guidance Triad?
At this time, the Guidance Triad is only available as a training (either live or virtual). This website is still in progress and only provides some information about the three main components of the Triad (positive guidance, anti-bias education, and trauma-informed care); the comprehensive overview of how these components overlap and work together is delivered in either a 2-hour training (intro level), or a 4-hour trainings (int/adv. level). In the future, there will be a workbook for The Guidance Triad, to help educators understand how they interpret "child guidance" and what it means to guide children according to anti-bias and trauma-informed principles.
Why does it matter?
We live in a diverse and beautiful world. Education is not one-size-fits all, and when educators adopt and use a one-size-fits-all approach, it excludes all those students who were not included when those measurements were taken. The Positive Guidance principles that are understood and practiced in quality early learning centers across the USA are evidence-based practices... but the evidence is research that came from WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic) societies. That excludes a LOT of the world. It is important to examine what we know as educators and where that knowledge comes from so that we can begin to understand our biases and unpack the systems that have excluded so many from the education system.
